QiGong as an Energy Modality
Qigong is a gentle exercise for Baby-Boomers to maintain their flexibility, and Qigong also has many health benefits. Qigong extends back more than 4,000 years.
According to the website, Energy Arts, “Qigong is a form of gentle exercise composed of movements that are repeated a number of times, often stretching the body, increasing fluid movement (blood, synovial and lymph) and building awareness of how the body moves through space.
When you practice and learn a Qigong (or Tai Chi) exercise movement, there are both external movements and internal movements. These internal movements or flows in China are called neigong or “internal power”. These internal neigong movements make Qigong a superior health and wellness practice.
The internal movements also differentiate qigong from almost every other form of exercise in the West that often emphasizes prolonged cardiovascular movements (such as in running and biking) or that focus on muscular strength training (weight lifting).
Developing the life force, or chi, is the focus of Taoism, China’s original religion/philosophy. The Taoists are the same people who brought acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, bone setting, and the yin/yang concept to the world.
Qigong was primarily developed as an exercise to keep people healthy and reduce tension. Qigong is practiced by people of all spiritual and religious persuasions. Although the basis of Qigong is Taoism, it is not necessary to learn or believe its philosophy to practice Qigong.”
My Experiences with Qigong
I find Qigong similar to Taoist Tai Chi as far as somewhat similar movements go, but Qigong can be done alone whereas Tai Chi has some individual moves, the complete ‘set’ of 108 moves is best done in a group.
Qigong is pretty easy to learn. I bought myself a couple of DVDs online and followed along with them. I really ‘must’ get back at this practice!!

Whether you think ‘energy healing’ is all a bunch of hokum, there is a lot of scientific evidence that goes back several decades, even centuries that point to energy within and all around us. Think Nikola Tesla, quantum physics, or even going back to ancient wisdom teachings and theology or religion.
Some energy modalities are easy to learn and some are more complicated. Some can be self-administered and others are generally administered by a certified practitioner. Some are fairly inexpensive; others cost a lot of money either for training or receiving the treatment. It’s up to you to seek out and see which one(s) works for you.
Disclaimer: Certain ideas about energy healing really resonate with me, but yet, when I tried them I didn’t get the results that others were getting, therefore I cannot and will not say that anyone modality is the end-all, be-all. (Please consult your own health care provider to find out what is best for you.)
I will explain to you my understanding and my practices, but I know from trial and error that what works for me may or may not work for you…
