Work-Away for Baby-Boomers
Baby-Boomers might like to try Work-Away as an economical form of travel. Work Away is set up to promote fair exchange between budget travelers, language learners or culture seekers and families, individuals, businesses or organizations who are looking for help with a range of varied and interesting activities.
Opportunities for work-away occur in almost every part of the world, from Canada, Florida Keys, Panama, Portugal, the UK, Trinidad/Tobago, Virgin Islands, South Africa, to West Africa.
According to the Work-Away info website, “Workawayers typically are interested in cultural exchange and learning and will help out for a few hours a day in exchange for food and accommodation, with visits lasting anywhere from a few days to a few months.
Travel cheaply and stay for free, whilst making a difference to the communities you visit. Put your existing skills to good use, or try something new you‘d never normally get to do and pick up new skills along the way.
There is an ever-growing list of 1000s of active hosts in over 155 countries offering all kinds of places to stay.”

It looks to me that the Work-Away program fits in with Baby-Boomers and Cultural Creatives whose values are about caring and making a difference in their communities and the environment.
I came across the term, and book, Cultural Creatives in the early 2000s. I was fascinated by this demographic which I totally related. Here’s an excerpt describing Cultural Creatives. “The Cultural Creatives care deeply about ecology and saving the planet, about relationships, peace, social justice, and about authenticity, self-actualization, spirituality and self-expression. Contrary to media stereotypes about being either for personal development or activism, they are both inner-directed and socially concerned: they’re activists, volunteers and contributors to good causes more than other Americans.” I think Baby-Boomers fit this description as well.
I think Work-Away would be another economical way to travel, see the world, Braille various cultures and make the world a better place by offering my skills, talents, labours, and passions wherever I go.
