Otherwise known as ‘the Big Book’ by members of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) the fourth edition of Alcoholics Anonymous, “the story of how many thousands of men and women have recovered from alcoholism” consists of several parts.

AA big book 4th Edition

AA big book 4th Edition

Part One consists of the first 164 pages which are considered the laying out of the 12-Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous. The balance of the book consists of stories ordered in three parts:

Part I – Pioneers of A.A.;

Part II – They Stopped in Time; and

Part III – They Lost Nearly All.

The Foreword of the first edition, printed in 1939, (reprinted in each succeeding edition) says, “We of Alcoholics Anonymous, are more than one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body (obsession & cravings). (Emphasis mine.) To show others precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book…”

The ‘big book’ is suitable reading for alcoholics looking for release from ‘a seemingly hopeless state of body and mind,’ as well as family and friends concerned about their alcoholic loved one.

I Highly Recommend it.
