Nature and Spirituality

I feel like I’ve searched all my life trying to make sense and find meaning in my life, wondering if there really is a ‘God.’ I’ve never been able to swallow the whole ‘old man in a cloud sitting in judgment’ style of God.

I definitely can grasp that there’s something greater than myself that makes the world run in harmony (when (hu)man(s) don’t interfere). I see the majesty and magnificence of this power through the changing seasons – and the necessity of each one. I see this magnificence when I travel through the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, near Golden and Revelstoke. I observed it traveling across Canada in 2006 – seeing the majestic mountains through Ontario, and seeing the ‘Great Lakes’ while traveling along the shore lines of Lake Superior.

Nowhere – Now Here

I don’t know who or what created all this – the earth, the universe, humans, wildlife, Nature. I’m not sure whether ‘The Big Bang’ is how ‘it all’ began, but I’ve seen a demonstration of the word ‘nowhere’ which can also be written as ‘Now Here.’ Interesting.

Is there a creative force, a first cause behind the Big Bang?

All I know is that I am mesmerized and inspired and calmed by Nature.

All my life I have had a love for the ocean and running water, whether from the tap, or the sound of creeks, rivers or the crashing of the ocean waves.

I was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia and moved to the Lower Mainland in my elementary school years. As a teen we moved to the Interior and I’ve pretty much been land-locked ever since. Now, in my early 60s I feel a call to move close to the ocean after living most of my life in the BC Interior.

I’ve actually made myself a promise – a commitment – that within the next five years I will live near some body of water – a lake, a creek or by the ocean.

I just wanna live on the beach. Walk it at night and then fall asleep with the windows open and listen to the waves crash.

My dad was a commercial fisherman for most of my life. During the summers some or all of us five kids would spend time on his boat. I loved the gentle rocking of the waves against the boat that lulled us to sleep. I was mesmerized by the phosphorous glow when we put our hands in the water as we traveled around Coastal BC.  It was a magical time in my life.

Sunsets and Autumn are my two favourite colours.

Nature in all her glory literally takes my breath away – from the fluorescent green grass and leaves of trees, to bubbling brooks and waves lapping at the shore, to the colours of autumn as the seasons change. The majestic, powerful mountains throughout this great land inspire me to question Who? What? Made ‘all this’?

Watching the setting sun I always feel a sense of awe and gratitude that ‘God’ paints me a new, beautiful picture each and every night. While moon and star-gazing I have always felt a sense of awe and wonder at the immenseness of this world, planet, and Universe.

Is there a favourite place or time in Nature that calms or inspires you?
