Masturbation for Baby-Boomers

As a Baby-Boomer of the mid-fifties, while growing up, I wasn’t really told anything one way or the other about masturbation from my family. I heard and read the whispered wives’ tales about ‘you shouldn’t masturbate or hair will grow on the palms of your hands,’ or ‘don’t do that or you’ll go blind.’

Men’s Health online magazine states that: It’s something people don’t talk about, but almost everyone does it:… In one national study, 95 percent of men and 89 percent of women said they had masturbated.

In fact, in the article, Gloria Brame says, “It relieves stress and keeps everything about your body—your heart rate, blood pressure, reproductive system, brain chemistry—in very good shape,”

Masturbation is a very healthy activity. It can de-stress you after a busy day. It can reduce one’s blood pressure. It ‘takes the edge off’ sexual tension and frustration. It keeps one ‘in shape’ sexually for when there is an available partner, and it helps one relax and go to sleep.

I’ve heard and read that there are sex therapists (think of Dr. Ruth Westheimer), books and courses out there that can teach one how to pleasure one’s self, but I really think it is just a natural evolution for self-exploration.

Whether one just uses their hands, or whether one uses props and toys to pleasure themselves, masturbation is good for one’s mental, emotional and physical health.

My favourite source for lotions ‘n’ potions and ‘things that go ‘buzz’ in the night’ was from Passion Parties (no longer in existence). I had been using their products for about six years for self-nurturing. I loved their line of personal care products. And yes, I have a few of their ‘toys.’ Now that Passion Parties is out of business, I’ve also found a new Sexual Enhancement company called Lovewinx.

My Personal Experiences with Masturbation

I know that when I was married, I wasn’t always left satisfied, and I would surreptitiously sneak into the bathroom after my husband (now ex…) rolled over and went to sleep and would take matters into my own hands to finish the job.

I’ve only had a few lovers that I’ve felt comfortable enough to masturbate in front of and with. Today I’m much more confident within myself that I would be able to self-pleasure myself in front of my next lover.

I know friends of mine up in their late seventies to mid-eighties in intimate relationships who tell me that masturbation is what kept their libido active and lubricated so that they still can enjoy a healthy sex life to this date in their late senior years.

So, there really is no shame for anyone to self-pleasure – no matter how old or young you are. As an old lover of mine used to say, ‘whatever spins your wheels.’
