AquaFit for Baby-Boomers
AquaFit is a water-based, gentle form of exercise that Baby-Boomers can benefit from to keep active and flexible.
At our local YMCA/YWCA, there are two types of Aquafit… one is called HydroFit, and the other is called GentleFit. Guess which one I like best!
I’ve been to the HydroFit classes – they are in the deep end of the pool and you need a floating belt to keep you stable when your feet can’t touch the bottom of the pool. I don’t like the style of the flotation belt offered as it doesn’t seem to stay in place properly for me. That’s one reason that I don’t much like the HydroFit here. The other is it’s first thing in the morning and I’m not much of a morning person, and the last reason is that the instructor shouts like a drill Sergeant!! “One two three four, keep on moving!!!” Yeah – so not my bag first thing in the morning.
However, I do like the GentleFit program. It is offered later in the day, and the instructors are much more soft-spoken. It is only offered a couple times of the week and I haven’t yet managed to fit it into my schedule consistently enough to benefit from it – yet.

In the fall of 2016, my daughter and I started doing our own set of seven ‘drills’ that were suggested by a kinesiologist for her to do to heal from an automobile accident in 2014. We generally make it to the pool at the YMCA 3 or 4 times a week.
After going to the Y pool for a year, it got increasingly noisy with the young lifeguards not knowing how to work a shift without some kind of music or radio blaring. Even as often as we asked for them to turn the music down or off, it just became so frustrating that we let our membership lapse.
