Affirmations

Affirmations are best said aloud, in the present tense and you must be able to believe the words that you are saying.

As someone in the obese category, I cannot honestly resonate with the words, “I am thin, fit, firm, flexible, and toned.” However, in Dr. Joseph Murphy’s book The Power of your Subconscious Mind, I read of a technique that by-passes the conscious, critical mind and goes directly to the subconscious mind.

By just saying “thin, fit, firm, flexible, and toned” there is no conflict for the conscious mind to judge, criticize, debate or negate my efforts in changing my thinking.

In Wayne Dyer’s book, Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the art of manifesting he shares the secret that the name of ‘God’ is I AM, and that anything one says after that is a characteristic of God. Since reading his book, I’ve attempted to be very cautious and aware of what I am saying after ‘I AM…’ Am I affirming the unlimited qualities of God, or am I affirming limited, human qualities such as ‘I AM stupid,’ ‘I AM Fat,’ ‘I AM sick,’ or ‘I AM tired?’

Thriving-Baby-Boomers - Affirmations - I AM

I AM ________________.

James Twyman carries on this theme in his book, The Moses Code. Tywman says ‘You were created by God, and therefore, you possess all the qualities of God…

Twyman goes on to write, ‘When Moses asked for God’s name, he was given what may at first seem like a cryptic statement. It wasn’t a normal name God offered but an assertion indicating a presence, transcending ordinary definitions. God said, “I AM THAT I AM.”…

A few pages further in the book, Tywman writes, ‘God told him that using the Sacred Name would give him authority and power, and it seems that Moses was convinced.”

These two authors and their books have made a powerful impact on how I think and speak and use affirmations.
