Welcome to Thriving-Baby-Boomers – A Whole person approach to wellness
“Empowering others to take a balanced approach to their own health and wellness by focusing on all aspects of the whole person.’
“Focusing on the whole person to maximize health and wellness for life.”
I didn’t grow up with much faith in anyone or anything. I wasn’t brought up in any kind of religion or spiritual philosophy to gain faith in a ‘higher power.’
Faith can be described as ‘a firm belief in something.’
I’ve always been an avid reader and seeker of ‘truth,’ and in the 80s I started digging deeper into spiritual and philosophical matters trying to figure out and understand ‘what’s the meaning/purpose’ of life. I read many books on life after death, philosophy, spirituality, even the bible and many of Shirley MacLaine’s early books such as Out On a Limb, You Can Get There from Here, and Don’t Fall Off the Mountain to name just a few.
Each book I read, each discussion session I attended – I kept hearing that you are ‘God’… (I couldn’t quite buy that…) Even the bible says, “Ye are gods.” ~ Psalm 82:6 and John 10:34.
Other passages from the bible that intrigued me were:
- “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him…” ~ Genesis 1:27 (King James Version)
- “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” ~ John 4:24
- Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” ~ John 14:12 – King James Version (KJV)
Maybe I haven’t quite yet come to believe that I am God, but I can believe that I am created in the image and likeness of ‘god’ – and have the same abilities to create my life as ‘god’ does…
Another bible quote that helped me through this time was “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
I had to find faith in something I could believe in. I believe (have complete trust) in gravity. I believe that the seasons will come around each year, that the sun and moon will rise each day and night. I started with believing in Nature – the cycles and seasons, believing in that all the animals, birds, etc. were taken care of somehow, some way. And I figured if they were taken care of, so I would be also.
Today I pretty much have faith that all things are working for the Best and Highest Good for all concerned… I don’t believe I, or anyone really knows what’s best for themselves or others. I will leave you with this acronym on Faith that I have used as a mantra at times.
In 2019, I am in my fourth year of daily gratitude posts on Facebook, and I have done many 21 – 40 day gratitude challenges over the past decade, I can honestly say that these spiritual tools have definitely helped increase my faith – in ‘god,’ in humanity, and even in my Self. (See my essay on Spiritual Tools.)
