Book Review – Radical Forgiveness
Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tipping is a great book with a valuable printable work page from the author’s website (included in the book also) to actually do the Radical Forgiveness exercises…
From the About The Author page of the book, we learn that Mr. Tipping is a certified clinical hypnotherapist who says that “hypnotherapy speeds up the therapy process by a factor of three.”
He further writes that in offering healing retreats for people with cancer, “In recognizing that lack of forgiveness was a big part of the causation, they set about refining a new form of forgiveness which later was to become what is now recognized as Radical Forgiveness. Unlike traditional forgiveness which takes many years and is universally seen as very difficult to achieve, it had to be quick, easy to do, simple and therapy free.”
There are five stages to Radical Forgiveness:
- Telling The Story (“Having our story heard and witnessed is the first and vital step to letting it go.”)
- Feeling the Feelings (“…It is only when we give ourselves permission to access our pain that our healing begins. The healing journey is essentially an emotional journey.”
- Collapsing the Story (“This step looks at how our story began and how our interpretations of events led to certain (false) beliefs forming in our minds that have determined how we think about ourselves and how we have lived our lives… Once we decide to retrieve our energy, we take back our power and the stories wither and die.”)
- Reframing the Story (This is where (one) surrender(s) to the idea that the gift is contained in the situation whether we know it or not… This is also the step of transformation… Our victim stories that were once vehicles for anger, bitterness and resentment become transformed into stories of appreciation, gratitude and loving acceptance.”)
- Integration (“After we have allowed ourselves to be willing to see the perfection in the situation and turned our stories into ones of gratitude, it is necessary to integrate that change at the cellular level…”)
I found it really helpful when I was in deep grief to be able to use the work page and look at the issue from a different, a Higher Perspective…
I have come back to this book a few times over the years when other areas of resentment and/or grief have arisen.
I highly recommend this book for anyone holding onto resentment or grief, or who wants to use this process to gain a new perspective of a situation or relationship.
